Hello and Welcome to Part 2 of “I Remember Everything About My Baby’s Birth.” If you haven’t read Part 1 yet, it is highly suggested that you do so. Anyway, to continue:

Second Born – Carlinda

In the morning of March 22nd, 2002, I took my final examinations in Auditing Theory, but I had this thumping feeling in my stomach. I was also 38 weeks at that time, and yes, ready to pop, but I opted to go to school that day because it was exam day. It wasn’t my time to give birth yet, anyway, since my due date was the first week of April.

But Carlinda wanted to come out and boy, was she in a hurry! I went to my OB-gyne after that morning exam in school, and she examined. “Linda, your cervix is one cm. You won’t give birth today. The earliest date of delivery for you will be four days from now. Okay?” I believed her, but Carlinda had a different agenda.

For the next eight hours, my stomach was tightening and then, was at ease. I called up my grandmother and told her what was happening. She said that I had to record the intervals of the tightening and then, call her every time it happens.

At first, the interval was an hour. Then, it became forty-five minutes. Soon, the span was shorter – my stomach was firm and relaxed every thirty minutes. My grandmother said that it is labor, but I wasn’t in pain. It’s just that my stomach was tightening and relaxing. She scolded me and told me to go to the hospital right away. And so I did. (My grandmother lived in a different city which is seven hours away from me.)

We arrived at the hospital at around 7 in the evening, and the OB resident examined me. She was shocked that I wasn’t in pain when my cervix was open. Carlinda was to arrive anytime, and I was still in the emergency room!

The staff moved as fast as they could and called up my OB-gyne. I had to wait for the doctor to arrive, but I could feel Carlinda coming out. Would you believe that the nurses told me to “not push?” It was crazy. Anyway, my doctor arrived at 8:15 in the evening. Carlinda came out fifteen minutes after that at seven pounds and six ounces.

Third Born – Melinda

Melinda was born on July 2, 2006, at 1:30 PM. I couldn’t forget the events that happened during that day because there was a Manny Pacquiao fight on TV and well, Melinda came out of me in an emergency Caesarean section delivery because her cord choked her neck at eight months. She was a premie.

It was a fast birthing moment. I came in the hospital after what was supposed to be just a routine check-up, and I was prepped for operation. One hour after, Melinda was out. I was conscious throughout the process, and I loved how the general anesthesia shot through my IV made me feel like – I was so high. It was heaven! But that’s not the exciting part of this story. There’s more.
