Pregnancy can be a very intense period in a woman’s life. It is a period when she gets flustered. One of the greatest concerns at this point in any woman’s life is ensuring that her baby is healthy, but that’s not all. You should also ensure that you are healthy during this time. A healthy mommy increases the chances of the baby also being healthy. Now, being healthy and in good shape do not only mean that you should eat right. It also has to do with your overall well-being. Here are six ways in which you can ensure that you are keeping ‘momma bear’ healthy.
- Eating Healthy
This may be one of the most important things in caring for yourself when you are pregnant. Remember, anything regarding nutrients goes to the fetus as well. Thus, you have to maximize the amount you usually eat so that you can have the right amount of nutrients too.
Ensure that you have a balanced diet every day. This means that you need to have your correct portions of starch, fruits, and vegetables, dairy and grains. Keeping hydrated is also important. This will help in the production of breast milk for your baby.
- Doctor Visits
From the moment you find out you are pregnant, down to the point when your child is scheduled to arrive, your doctor visits are critical. Your doctor should be your best friend during your pregnancy. This allows you to know exactly what is happening to your body inside out. You will know if your baby is doing well. Your doctor visits can also tell you if you have any complications. Aside from that, the doctor can also tell you that your body is in good shape to sustain a healthy delivery. Yeast infections are also frequent occurrences for a pregnant woman. These infections can cause your baby to contract it when passing through the birth canal. Therefore, it is good to keep up-to-date with doctor’s appointments.
Many people believe that they should stop working out once they’re expecting. Little did they know that working out is good for mommy. It helps you to stay fit. It also contributes to get your metabolism going so that your weight can be appropriate and help ease the delivery process. By all means, exercise doesn’t mean jogging, running or some yoga. It can be that intimate moment between you and your significant other. We all know it can make you work up a sweat and keep you fit.
Getting enough rest is another way to ensure that you take care of yourself. During this time, stress levels are heightened. Your body may even be slowing down from your regular day-to-day tasks. When you start feeling very tired, as if you can’t go on, this is your body telling you that you need to rest. Listen! Take some time for yourself. Take a nap or just sit back and relax. Believe me. It will ease your stress levels. It can also leave you in a very calm state that will inevitably increase your good mood.
- Prenatal Vitamins
Every pregnant woman should ensure that she starts taking her prenatal vitamins once she finds out that she is expecting a little one. Prenatal vitamins have the right amount of folic acid and iron that you need to sustain your body. When you become pregnant, the body needs more of these vitamins to keep your body functioning properly, both for you and your baby. But as usual, too much of anything is never good. So do not overdose on vitamins.
- Harmful Substances
One thing you must do is stay away from toxic substances. These substances, such as alcohol, cigarette, cocaine and even some medications like blood thinners, can be very harmful. They may cause you to lose your child or cause developmental issues which are not at all a healthy thing for you.
Remember, caring for your unborn child is also caring for yourself. If something goes wrong with your baby, there is a chance something may go wrong with your well-being, and this goes the other way too. So please, ensure “momma bear” is always good.
